Sweet ‘n’ Salty Game Night Trail Mix

For a Game Night, Casino Night, Bunco, or any other event with games, you can’t go wrong with this cute and easy sweet ‘n’ salty trail mix. The white chocolate dice cookies are the standout.

Trail mix is the easiest thing to throw together to suit any occasion, and it’s always a crowd pleaser. It’s portable too — I take it everywhere with me.

Making the dice might seem like a task for only a crazy person. (And I might be.) But the impact of them is worth the half hour it will take to make the quantity you need for this recipe. I’ll be honest: It’s taken me a few tries to get good at chocolate dipping, but now I’m a pro and my secrets for success are included below.

Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 30 minutes
Chocolate dipping 30 minutes
Total Time 35 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 bag SkinnyPop original popcorn (or other store-bought or microwave popcorn)
  • 1 bag Turtle Chex Mix (Family Size)
  • 2 cups Snyder's Pretzel Snaps
  • 1 bag Reese's Dipped Pretzels
  • 1 bag Peanut M&Ms (Shareable size)
  • 1 bag Caramel M&Ms (Shareable size)
  • 1 bag Peanut Butter M&Ms (Shareable size)
  • 4 packs Lorna Doone Shortbread 100-Calorie Cookie Crisps (about 36-40 mini cookies)
  • 1/2 bag Ghiradelli white chocolate melting wafers
  • Mini chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Prep your work space by laying down a silicone baking mat or wax paper to place your dice cookies on after dipping in chocolate.

  2. Melt white chocolate wafers according to package directions. Make sure chocolate is fully melted (thinner consistency makes dipping easier).

  3. Dip each Lorna Doone shortbread square into white chocolate and decorate with mini chocolate chips to look like dice.

  4. For best dipping results, lay cookie on fork tines and dip into melted white chocolate so that it is fully covered. Remove excessive chocolate by gently but vigorously jiggling the fork side to side, so that melted chocolate drips off into bowl.

  5. Slide chocolate-dipped cookie onto silicone baking mat or wax paper and immediately top with mini chocolate chips in dice patterns before white chocolate hardens.

  6. Allow dice to cool and harden, at least 10 minutes. You may refrigerate them to speed up the process.

  7. In large bowl with cover, mix popcorn, Chex Mix, and pretzels. Cover and shake to combine.

  8. Add Reese's dipped pretzels. Shake gently to combine.

  9. Add all bags of M&Ms and all white chocolate-covered dice cookies. Shake gently to combine.

  10. Serve in plastic punch cups. Store leftovers in covered airtight container, out of direct sunlight or in refrigerator.

Recipe Notes

White chocolate shortbread cookie dice Lorna Doone

  • The correct-sized Lorna Doone shortbread cookies are only sold in the 100-calorie packs. (Regular shortbread cookies are too large.) I used 4 packs, for about 40 dice total.
  • When adding chocolate chips in dice patterns, I could accommodate numbers 1 through 5 on the shortbread cookies, but 6 mini chips didn't fit. So there are no 6s in this mix.
  • After adding M&Ms and dice cookies, don't shake too much to combine, as these will fall to the bottom of the bowl.
  • Ingredients are totally customizable! If you or your guests have a nut allergy, substitute a different sweet Chex Mix flavor (Cookies and Cream is delicious), regular M&Ms, and milk chocolate or yogurt-dipped pretzels.

Warning: This stuff is addictive, and those little shortbread cookies will be a new staple for my trail mix in the future. I ate it by the handful as I was making it, and then all Game Night long. I hope you and your guests like it as much as I do!
