Is there a more quintessentially fall spice than cinnamon? It pairs perfectly with pumpkins and apples and harvest squashes. It’s a little sweet and a little heat and a lot of cozy comfort.
Cinnamon has quickly become my go-to on my own clean eating health journey. Need a little bit of flavor or sweetness that’s not sugar? Cinnamon will do it. I sprinkle it on apple slices and on all varieties of nut butter toasts. I sprinkle it in my coffee too — iced or hot — and I’ve found that as long as there’s a good sprinkle of cinnamon in there, I can basically drink my coffee black.
This summer, I recreated the flavors of Peaches and Cream oatmeal in the form of a healthy, no added sugar smoothie. In honor of the arrival of fall proper (read: winter coat weather), I tackled another childhood favorite: Cinnamon Roll Oatmeal.
This smoothie has the same classic comforting taste of its inspiration without the processed sugars and chemicals that lift you and up and then crash you right back down. The combination of dates, cinnamon and banana is sweet enough naturally, and the protein from the oats, Greek yogurt, and cashew butter will give you energy for the day ahead.
Here’s a secret: This recipe includes frozen riced cauliflower for some hidden veggie power. The riced cauliflower complements the texture and creaminess of oatmeal while sneaking in some extra vitamins. I’ve determined Sawyer will drink most anything in smoothie form, and now I know that includes cauliflower too.
