A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away … a mom started a Star Wars-inspired outer space bedroom for her kindergartener. She painted and decorated the walls. She planned some projects.
But then life happened and she got sidetracked and she never shared the next phase of the bedroom reveal.
Today, I’m revealing all of the little details that add “Star Wars” into the space theme. I tried my hardest to avoid licensed character overload and focus on accents that could be changed out in the future.
Here’s how I brought the Star Wars universe to Easton’s outer space themed kids’ bedroom.

Star Wars-Inspired Decor for Kids’ Bedroom
1. Wall decals
Wall decals are the easiest impermanent way to add some bang for your buck when decorating. Just peel and stick and instantly transform your space. If, in 6 months or 6 years, your child is sick of the theme, unpeel them and discard — bare walls back in a second.
There are a million options for Star Wars decals but I like this set that focuses more on the ships than the characters. It worked to integrate a few on the ceiling and a few onto the walls.
We arranged our ships into three distinct areas: one on each of the long walls of the room, and a small “scene on the ceiling right above Easton’s bed.
For under $10 on Amazon Prime, this 20-sticker set was a bargain that transformed the room in Easton’s eyes.
2. Movie poster
When I was selling Easton on the Star War bedroom to help entice him to switch to the smaller bedroom in our house, all he asked for was a Yoda poster.
When I went to buy the Yoda poster, it was easier said than done. There aren’t a lot of affordable options out there (and none that met my criteria for “classy-ish”).
But I fell in love with this super-cool colorful Star Wars Galaxy poster and promptly made it one of the center points of the room. I certainly can’t name all the extensive cast of characters but Easton loves pointing out his favorites and searching for others. So much so that he almost let it go that I never found a Yoga poster (*insert eye roll*).
I used silver metallic dot wall decal stickers to “frame” the poster on the wall to give it a machine-inspired look. This inexpensive decal set included so many stickers that I accented multiple parts of the room with a line of dots as well, including around the headboard and light switches. And I still have million dots left over!
3. Death Star lantern light
This one is my favorite. It’s a paper lampshade that looks like the Death Star — do I need to say anything more about how cool it is?
Add a light bulb and it even lights up. We read books by this light everything. It does require a specialty light kit to add a bulb and suspend from your ceiling.
This paper lantern ships from overseas, so it’s not on Prime. But for $10, it’s a detail you can’t leave out for any Star Wars fan decor. The diameter is 29.5 cm, or just under 1 foot, so it’s not huge but makes a great accent.
The lantern light kit comes in black or white and is 12 feet long. It includes everything you need to transform the paper lampshade into a functional light (including the hooks), except for a lightbulb.
4. Star Wars comforter and sheets
Of course, a Star Wars room wouldn’t be complete without licensed theme character bedding.
I chose a comforter that was subtle and classic so that it could last him well into childhood. (Also, I really fight against tacky character everything.) I bought it from Target but it’s no longer available. A similar option is available from Amazon.
If I had seen this option when doing the purchasing, I probably would have opted for it. I like the colors and the ship pattern. We actually have a set of sheets with this design even before we started the Star Wars room.
Here’s another clean, classic option from Amazon, available in a full/queen size. (There are more comforter and quilt options for twin size beds.)
I let Easton pick the two sets of sheets. He made great choices! I love the fun colors and graphic elements of both of them. I think he might have my eye for design. 😉
The first set is my favorite. The bright colors add an extra pop of color to the room, especially when the bed isn’t made (which is basically all of the time except for this photo shoot). I found these at Kohl’s.
The second set focuses on the ships, our favorite.
The comforter included one pillow sham, and Easton’s grandma brought him a Star Wars Tsum plush to finish the bed.
5. Well-placed accent toys
This Star Wars Command Star Destroyer Set is the perfect accent to decorate Easton’s dresser and give him something to play with and rearrange while sticking with the theme. This discontinued set even has a remote control for the ship, so snap it up from Amazon for $20 before it’s gone for good.
The LEGO Darth Vader alarm clock is another perenial favorite. We don’t use it as an alarm clock in any way (because Easton is up before 6 am each day entirely on his own internal clock). But in the window, it makes a great guardian watching over the room.
A Star Wars bedroom isn’t complete without at least one light saber. We have so many light sabers in our house that I’m working on an easy DIY tutorial for a wall-mounted storage rack.
Here are a couple of our favorite light sabers that are now proudly displayed in the bedroom:
In some ways, our simple, class outer space theme bedroom has become a Star Wars galaxy fantasy land. But these accents are impermanent and inexpensive — my hallmarks for kids’ rooms.
