The countdown to school is on, and this family is exactly three weeks away from THE DAY. Easton’s first day of kindergarten.
Everyone in the household is a mixture of excitement and nerves. #DoneWithFun Daddy and I are figuring out how we are going to get two kids to different schools at two different times and still be at work on time. For the first time, I won’t be dropping off both boys myself; we are going to have to divide and conquer to get this one done.
I should be doing the happy dance to simplify my morning commute. But it feels weird to think that I won’t be the one kissing Sawyer goodbye at school every morning. The emotions of motherhood are so complex.
I’m feeling some mom regret that I haven’t adequately captured the preschool years for posterity. As a daycare mom, there’s less of a “school year” to deal with. Your kids just go, every day, endlessly.
Kindergarten is a fresh start and I want to start the yearly photo tradition that my mom did with us growing up: that first-day-of-school picture with your backpack in front of the house.

Then grab some chalkboard markers, gel pens, or metallic paint pens and get to work filling out your kiddo’s details. I won’t judge if you are working on this at 10 PM the night before the first day of school. I guarantee you I will too.
