Your Summer Party Big-Batch Cocktail
Is it too early to be thinking about margaritas?
Trick question, obviously. It’s never too early to be thinking about margaritas.
And the only thing better than margaritas is big-batch strawberry basil margaritas for summer.
Are you a sweet margarita person? I’ll be honest — I’ve never met a margarita I didn’t like: Sweet, sour, spicy, fruity, frozen, on the rocks … it’s a shame that tequila doesn’t like me nearly as much as I like it.
With juicy strawberries and fresh-picked basil from the garden, the flavor in this recipe is sweet and refreshing — but packs a punch.
You’ve been warned. 😉
Pitcher Strawberry Basil Margaritas
Ingredients
- 2 lbs fresh strawberries (cleaned and tops cut off)
- 1/2 cup cold water
- 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves
- 1 cup fresh squeezed lime juice
- 3 cups tequila (silver preferred but any will do)
- 1.5 cups Triple Sec (Cointreau)
- Strawberry sparking water to taste
Instructions
-
Muddle with mortar and pestle or gently crush basil leaves to release flavor. Place in pitcher and cover with tequila and Triple Sec. Allow to steep in fridge at least 30 minutes.
-
Wash and clean strawberries and remove tops. I used 2 16-ounce containers for this recipe.
-
In a high-speed blender, puree strawberries with cold water and lime juice.
-
You should yield about 4 cups of strawberry puree.
-
When ready to serve, strain out and discard basil leaves. Add strawberry puree to pitcher and serve to combine.
-
Serve on the rocks and top with a float of strawberry sparkling water (as little or as much as you want based on desired drink strength)
-
Garnish with fresh strawberries, lime slices, and enjoy!
I brought this to my last girls’ night in (who doesn’t travel by Uber with their cooler?), and it was a big hit … until the next morning when I remembered why I don’t drink tequila more often. But it did pair perfectly with tacos, salsa and guac in the moment.
