When the weather starts to warm, the sun starts to peek out, and the grass starts to green, I’m ready to throw open my windows and celebrate. I love what spring symbolizes: rebirth after a long winter. Thawing first, then growing and flourishing. I can feel myself coming back to life along with the plants.
My secrets to spring decorating: bring the renewal of the outside world inside through a combination of natural elements and dollar store accents. Think flowers, greenery, and all the pastels. This year, I’m loving rustic accents mixed with a touch of metallic glam.
Mix and match the below list to create combinations for your own house. As always, I’m looking for the most inexpensive ways possible to refresh my space, so Dollar Tree, Target Dollar Spot, and Walmart seasonal are my first stops.

Essential Items for Spring Decor on a Budget
Spring flower bouquets (hydrangeas, tulips, or daffodils are my favorite)
Trader Joe’s is my favorite spot for individual stems to combine into my own creation, or beautifully curated inexpensive bouquets. Give yourself permission to spend the $5 a week on yourself. The mood lift you’ll get from fresh flowers in your space is more than worth it.
Or cut them from your own garden. Once my purple tulips explode, I’ll have bouquets for days.
Pussy willow branches
Clip them from your own yard, snag them from a neighbor (ask first!) or head over to a craft store to buy some fake ones. Add to glass vase with eggs (keep reading for the details) and … instant Easter decoration!
Succulents (real or faux)
My passion for succulents runs deep. There’s something about their jewel-like shapes and colors; I want to collect them. A home improvement store like Home Depot is a great source for small, inexpensive succulents, and Costco has some pretty arrangements right now too.
Or go faux: The combination of these colors and low maintenance absolutely sold me. Find them in the Target Dollar Spot if you’re lucky or on Amazon. I’ll be sharing my front porch planter made with the options below on the blog later this month!
Two of my Amazon favorites:
These are pricier but the colors are so pretty!
Dollar store vases
You probably already have a collection of glass vases from the flowers you’ve received over the years. A simple cylindrical glass vase is so versatile. If you don’t have any or you want a unique shape or color, head to the dollar store for endless options. (When your kids break ’em, you’re only out a dollar!)
Glass marbles or gems
Collect these in all the colors: clear, lime green, light blue . Use them together for a fun multi-color look or separately for a classic statement. Accent all your vases and floral arrangements with them. Where to buy? Start at the dollar store, then head to Amazon for more color options.
Water beads
If you aren’t using water beads as part of your standard decor, you’re missing out. Superior to glass marbles, water beads start out tiny and expand and fill with water. They make simple flowers more fun, and better yet, they hold water and keep your plants more hydrated when you forget to water them for days at a time like I do.
The kids’ toy Orbeez are sold in stores, but you can buy a giant package on Amazon for a lot less money. Craft stores sell individual color variations as well.
Easter eggs
I don’t mean the crappy plastic eggs that you’re going to fill with candy to add to your Easter baskets (although there are some very cute ideas on Pinterest for those as well.) I bought the next step up of plastic eggs: pearlescent miniatures from Target and a set of speckled multi-size eggs from Walmart.
If they’re plastic, add them to a vase and add water. If they’re styrofoam or another porous material, display in a rustic farm bucket, pretty bowl, or nest of branches.
I hope this list inspires you to browse the aisles of Target (it’s a form of self-care as all moms know) and seek out your own inspiration in your yard or neighborhood.
If you don’t have time to explore the aisles of Target, Walmart, Dollar Tree and more, I linked some similar items on Amazon Prime. The problem with buying craft supplies on Amazon is they’re often sold in bulk, making the total cost more expensive. But I also know that sometimes it’s worth it to pay a little more and save yourself the hassle. There’s a happy medium somewhere…

Vases
And don’t forget my favorite Nora Fleming square stoneware dish
(pictured with the hydrangeas above) that holds napkins, or candy, or nuts. I love this whole line because the serving pieces are classic white and there are about a million Minis to choose from to customize it for each season or occasion. The robin’s egg nest, and ladybug are two of my versatile favorites for spring currently available; the pink gerber daisy has just been discontinued!
